Review Ratings

This is an explanation of the ratings that are included with book reviews I have written. The ratings are divided into four categories, each rated on a scale of 1 - 3 stars. There is also an overall impression. I do not want to indicate that 2-stars correlates with a score of 60%. It would be more accurate to see the stars as representing high-medium-low. Thus a 1-star rating in theology indicates a book has low theological accuracy. Here is a breakdown of the categories:

Theology/Accuracy

This refers to whether or not the book has sound theology and accuracy to Scripture. A high rating indicates that the author's theology is consistent with Scripture, and a low rating indicates that it is not.

Readability / Listenability

This refers to how easy it is to read and understand the book or in the case of music how easy it is to listen to. A book written in a conversational style is likely to rate higher than a book that is very technical. Music that is well composed, arranged and generally easy on the ears will receive 3 stars. Anything less will be ranked accordingly.

Uniqueness

This refers to how unique the book is. There are some topics that have been covered extensively by other authors, while other topics have barely received notice. A book that is unique will receive a higher rating than a book which is just one in a busy genre.

Importance

This refers to how important it is that Christians read this book. A book that is critically important to the body of Christ will receive a higher rating than a book, that while it may be well-written and contain good theology, is not as important.

Overall

This is an overall impression of the book.
