National Prayer Breakfast Closing
This is a continuation of my previous posts about the 54th Annual Prayer Breakfast...
As the Prayer Breakfast drew to a close, Norm Coleman introduced the closing song by Point of Grace. The song they sang was Love is Waiting in the Wings.
The main chorus of the song is :
I believe – though God is out of sight He's working in the middle of all things Evil may have its time in the spotlight But love is waiting in the wings Love is always waiting in the wings
When the finished singing there was heavy applause.
Norm Coleman and Mark Pryor rose to close the time together. They mentioned that the President had to fly to Minnesota. Since the program was running a few minutes late they joked about him missing his flight.
Pryor and Coleman recalled one of the highlights of the prayer breakfast for them was calling Billy Graham when they were planning the Prayer Breakfast. Graham was unable to attend due to health issues.
The last speaker of the morning was now introduced. Colman introduced King Abdullah II from Jordan. He was given a standing ovation.
He began to speak about teh Koran and the Bible. He drew many parallels.
He began by saying the that the essence of the Koran is the opening chapter. I took the liberty of looking that up:
"All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds."
Abdullah drew parallels of the Koran and the Psalms and other parts of the Bible.
He then echoed the words of Jesus, "Lead us not into temptation."
He encouraged us to pray for the Middle East. Pray for peace. Pray that not one more generation grow up with conflict.
Then he echoed the words of the Prophet Amos through Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. (Amos 5:24)
When King Abdullah II was done speaking, Norm Coleman and Mark Pryor ended the event by reciting or, shall I say, reading Aaron's blessing (Numbers 6:24-26):
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

I think I am going to have to weasel my way into next years breakfast. It sounds like it was way to cool and sobering at the same time.
