Contending, Not Defending
If Jesus is on the throne, should we be defending the doctrines or dogma or even our faith? Do we need to defend the King? Or are we called to be on the offensive? Pushing back darkness with Jesus' glorious light?
I am now at the point where I no longer take it upon myself to defend the words of Jesus, after all, he is the King. When the King is on the throne it means he is ruling. In the case of Jesus, He is ruling. We must remember it isn't the infant, that Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, that is on the throne. No, no, it is the mighty warrior who will soon return.
If this is the case, we should be contenders for the faith. No defensive posture needed here. We are in the King's army. No hiding out in some remote fort. We can occupy the Kingdom of Light. Light always dispells darkness. It is never even a close battle.
What does it mean to contend? It means that we live each day in light of the King's reign. This is a message to the power at be that a new King is on the throne. No need to get weighed down in sideshow antics. We are concerned with the big picture here. That doesn't mean that deatiled and intricate twists within our worldview are of no consequence, they are! We just must keep their consequence in perspective.
It is with this perspective in mind that we contend. We contend for the King. We contend on behalf of the King. We contend with the armor and weaponry of the King. We contend without sheaths. We contend with our sword drawn. We contend.
